The funny thing is: You could have told the same story with "Agile" instead of "Product" about two years ago. And even funnier: Those agile practitioners inside companies have those lessons learned, but it seems the same mistakes first need to be repeated under a different label.

Well, it’s timeless leadership and change advice. Applies to any change one wants to make.

I coach product leaders, and so I’ve put it into this context, with this example.

Timeless indeed! This article is worth to be shown around. Maybe the promise of product management being the fast track to becoming a CEO attracts too easily people who think they are god's greatest gift while they should be humble and curious about other people...

There are a few roles which are particularly good preparation for becoming CEO.

Product is one of them (especially as a founder). Others I’ve seen as common paths are sales, finance and marketing. Operations or customer service less so, and technology even less (except as founder).

But few of these roles are talked about as “CEO of the x”, like product is - not a helpful phrase in my view!
